Big Stone Gap -- Mountain Empire Community College’s Slemp Gallery is pleased to host an exhibit by Kennesaw State University focusing on the United States internment of Japanese Americans during World War II. The exhibit, titled "The Tragedy of War," includes ten panel displays that follow the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, 120,000 Japanese Americans were forcibly placed in confinement and stripped of their rights through Executive Order 9066. “The Tragedy of War” explores the experiences of those confined and how the internment of Japanese Americans shaped principles of freedom and justice in the United States. The exhibit will be featured until January 30. MECC’s Slemp Gallery is located in Robb Hall, inside of the Wampler Library.
