About Distance Learning
Distance education courses are a convenient way to further your educational goals. They are also challenging. You become an independent scholar and problem solver as you take on the responsibility of learning on an individual basis (an essential skill required in our global economy).
Distance education credit courses and programs are based on instructional outcomes and objectives identical to those for traditional classroom courses and programs in Mountain Empire Community College's curricula. These courses demand as much commitment from students as any class offered on campus, if not more.
Extended Learning Institute
Have you ever wanted to take a course in University Physics, French, German or Japanese? Well, now you can take these courses and more.
MECC offers shared distance learning courses through Northern Virginia Community College’s Extended Learning Institute (ELI). You now have the opportunity to take unique online courses that offer a broader choice of career and educational content. These shared courses can also help you with those last few courses you needed to complete your degree requirements!
Students will register and pay through MECC. Additional benefits include online tutoring, career counseling, student success coaches, 24/7 help desk and virtual student social activities. In addition, there will be a special assistant in distance learning department to provide support and ensure success.
